Search students crushed the St. Patrick’s Day Breakout Box challenge. We celebrated by snapping some pictures in our ‘photo booth’! Great job, problem-solving super stars!
Letters went home on March 12 stating that we would be testing for our Search program during the weeks of March 16 and March 23. Due to school closure, testing will be postponed until the week students return to school. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me. Stay safe and enjoy this time with your loved ones!
Fourth grade Search students from LCES, MES and BGE joined together to put on a Market Day for first and second grade students. We started learning about economic themes in September. After discussing needs and wants, scarcity, interdependence, factors of productions and technology, Search students created unique products following the engineering design process. This is the first year we have come together to share our products and we had a blast!
We are getting festive with our holiday breakout boxes throughout the next week. Was your child able to complete the challenge? Be sure to ask! 🙂
Fourth grade students have been busy exploring the design process through STEM to create products for our Market Day! We are planning to host our Market Day in January with all fourth grade Search students in our county.
Search students practice critical thinking skills in many ways, but one of our favorites is through playing board games! Bowling Green Elementary will be hosting a special event for students in grades 1-8 from all schools. Bring your family and join us for an evening of fun (and maybe a little challenge) to play a variety of Search games. The gifted department will be providing pizza and drinks for dinner, so please RSVP and note all family members attending.
- What: Search Family Board Game Night
- When: Thursday, December 12 – 6:00-7:00 PM
- Where: Bowling Green Elementary
- Who: Search Students (and their families) in Grades 1-8 from BGE, MES, LCES and CMS
To ensure we are adequately prepared, please return your interest form to your child’s Search teacher by Friday, December 6.
To continue our learning about natural structures, fifth grade Search students from BGE and LCES traveled to the Science Museum of VA to view an IMAX feature about volcanoes. Thank you so much to our amazing chaperones for joining us!
All Search students in grades 2-5 have logic puzzle packets available for when they finish activities early. These puzzles focus on deductive reasoning and increase in challenge by the level. Logic puzzles are a favorite for many students and they often ask to take their challenges home. Below I have shared the links for similar books with differentiated levels. Second grade students start on the Basic Level Challenges and advance to the next level once they are ready. (Parents, there are expert level challenges if you would like to get in on the action too!)

First grade Search begins by exploring patterns in literature. Patterns can take on many forms in literature, such as rhyming and structure. Levi, wrote his own story, inspired by his older brother, to include A-B patterns. Great work, Levi! 🙂
